This was a very interesting e-mail yesterday showing a Union Pacific train carrying coal from Sharon Springs, Kansas to Salina. After a few miles out a wheel bearing became overheated and melted letting a metal support drop down and grind on the rail creating white hot molten droppings down on the rail. The crew tried to explain to those higher up but were told NOT to move the train. Informed the crew that RULES prohibited moving the train when a part was found defective.
"Remember, Rules are Rules!" Don't ever let common sense get in the way of a good disaster.
I am sure if we were sitting around a table having a discussion about rules and regulations the debate would get as hot and heavy as the molten droppings in the train story. How often have the 'higher-ups' ignored a plea for understanding of a truth because of a 'rule'. Don't get me wrong, rules are good, we would live in chaos if we did not have rules to guide us, but there are times when life changes beget a change in the rules. Ah....leading into politics....not this morning, much too early and I haven't had my coffee. But as a tiny hint, maybe a change in the rules of tenure for our politicos would be good, better or even best in the future. Okay, I will love you and leave you this morning as I have a dentist hygienist waiting with baited breath to 'rule' over my pearly whites. I'd rather skip the ordeal but there is a 'rule' somewhere that says a visit to the dentist is mandatory twice a year, but once is more than enough for me.
So today, Thursday, September 1, 2011, the start of a new month which will lead us to new weather patterns so it is time to think about warmer clothing but there is no 'rule' that says you have to do it today as Indian Summer is yet to arrive and that is always a wonderful time to be out and about. Make your seconds count. What are you going to do today? Drop a line and let me know. Hugs. to all.
