A wild strawberry, looks good enough to eat. We had lemon cake and strawberries for desert last night and it tasted pretty good even without cream. Our day was spent working in the front yard and I now have a healthy Rose of Sharon as Bob and Andrea cut it back and thinned out all the dead wood. It should be beautiful next Spring. There were other cut backs to the front yard bushes, amazing how they take on a life of their own and the ground cover decides to go up instead of out. My 'bad' hose was tamed as Bob pulled it out to its full length and unkinked it. We stopped at Ace Hardware and bought a new wand so I can water the plants and not the rocks anymore. So we had a work day after our trip to the Port where we had some luscious clam chowder sitting on a wooden bench as the fog lazily lifted.
La Verne, my neighbor, came over the other day with her gladiola and this awesome flower. I have no idea what it is but it certainly different and beautiful. The sad thing is that once cut it doesn't stay with us very long. It has the marks of a daisy. La Verne has a beautiful yard with pathways leading to colorful flower beds. Her roses are spectacular and now and then she comes in with one. Last week it was a tiny lavender rose bud that looked Victorian so it was placed in a tiny tea cup for all to enjoy.
When Bob and Andrea came along the highway, they came to a bridge filled with people and they wondered what was going on. Bob asked and was told about the whale that has been stuck in the river for a month or more. It had a baby with it for awhile but now the baby has gone out to sea but the mother stays there. Something is wrong and we all hope that this poor whale will go back out to sea. So far it seems to be content right where it is. It has been on the news so keep your ears open and you may find out the end of the story.
So today, the so called hump day of our week, take stalk about what needs to be finished up before the week ends. Today we will head out for a beach walk and let the gardening settle into its new look. I have to try out my new wand and see how it works. Marge sent us a new Vegetarian "Raw Beet" taco recipe, so here it is for you to make up when you have time.l package Mission "Artisan Style Tortillas, multi-grain 8 ct.; 1 small red beet, peeled and grated; 1/4th of small red onion sliced thin; 1/2 of small avocado sliced thin; 1 small carrot peeled and grated. Some grated sharp cheddar cheese; 1 bottle of Annie's Natural Goddess dressing. Makes 2 tacos.
Warm taco in a dry pan over medium heat and turn over to heat both sides. Spread some cheese onto the taco and let warm until starting to melt the cheese. Take out of pan onto a plate. Spread some sliced onions, grated beets, grated carrots and sliced avocado. Drizzle a little Goddess dressing on and enjoy.
Marge says it is an 'awesome' recipe from her granddaughter. So go shopping and treat your taste buds to a delicious taco and don't forget to share a recipe or two. Make your seconds count. Hugs to all.
